Fourteen rooms. One fjord.

A sauna on the water, a twenty-seat kitchen fed by the farm next door, and no one else on this shore.

Open now. We close for winter on 30 November and reopen 1 March 2027.

The place

The road ends at the farm. The fjord carries on for another forty kilometres.

Halden sits on the one flat strip of land between Bøen farm and the water. The mountain walls rise fourteen hundred metres on both sides, so the light arrives late and leaves early, and in summer it barely leaves at all. Fourteen rooms, one long table, a sauna you reach by jetty.

The north wall rises to 1,402 metres, Bøen farm sits on a terrace at 62 metres, Halden and its jetty are 4 metres above the water, the fjord is 212 metres deep at its middle, and the south wall rises to 1,250 metres. 1 402 m 1 250 m Bøen farm · 62 m Halden · 4 m Jetty + sauna 212 m LUSTRAFJORDEN N · AA · S

02 Sauna

A sauna on the water. The fjord is the cold plunge.

A wood-fired room for ten at the end of the jetty, with a glass wall at bench height so you watch the water while you sit. A ladder goes straight down into it.

03 Kitchen

Twenty seats. The farm is three hundred metres up the hill.

Bøen sends down what is ready in the morning, and the menu is written after it arrives. One sitting at 19:00. Guests eat first; four seats are held each night for the valley.

Open March to November. Closed for the dark months.

Each month changes the light, the water and what comes down from the farm. June books first, usually by February.

“We drew twenty rooms and built fourteen. Any more and the jetty would start to feel like a pier.”
